Hey, I'm Ishan Patel!Welcome to my portfolio website! I'm a software engineer skilled in both front-end and back-end technologies. I am currently finishing up my Master's in Computer Science at Georgia Tech, and have been fortunate to work with amazing teams at Amazon, the GTSF Investments Committee, and the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Take a look around to see some of my previous work!
About Me
My name is Ishan Patel, and I am an undergraduate computer science student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. I have a strong academic record, earning Faculty Honors at Tech and graduating as valedictorian (Rank 1/419) of my high school. In addition to this, I am also a PAGE STAR Student, Zell Miller Scholarship holder, Georgia Club Foundation Scholarship holder, and hold 2 associate's degrees I earned while in high school.
At Tech, I quickly fell in love with computer science and have stayed captivated by its relentless demand for problem solving. I enjoy learning much about the underlying theory behind CS, including algorithms, data structures, and computational theory. I dedicate further time to studying finance and its interplay with technology, especially as it relates to quantitative analysis and algorithmic trading. I aim to make impactful contributions within these fields, continuously learning and pushing myself to achieve my full potential.
When I'm not coding, I enjoy travelling, staying fit at the gym, and reading about personal finance. I have been to 19 countries across 5 continents and have a strong appreciation for the diverse perspectives and cultures I have experienced around the world. This international exposure has broadened my understanding and continues to inspire my approach to both life and work.

My Experience
Incoming Software Engineer Intern @ Databricks
Bellevue, Washington
I am joining Databricks in their Bellevue office this upcoming summer!
May 2025 - August 2025Software Development Engineer Intern @ Amazon
Austin, Texas
At Amazon, I was a contributor on the Security Performance and Insights Team. My team managed a data ingestion engine as well as a full stack application that processed security metric data for business leaders and engineers. The team faced a significant bottleneck: updating engine functionality via JSON config files required 2-3 hours to deploy. To resolve this, I designed and developed an end-to-end config management tool and transitioned all configuration files from their local location to DynamoDB. This reduced update times from hours to <1 ms. I also implemented robust config validation using the Marshmallow library, introduced versioning and rollback capabilities, and created an interactive user interface to streamline functionality management for the team.
May 2024 - August 2024Quantitative Analyst @ GTSF Investments Committee
Atlanta, Georgia
At the Georgia Tech Student Foundation's Investments Committee, I have diven deep into the world of quantitative trading starting with a comprehensive semester-long mentorship program that taught foundational investing principles. During my initial semester in the Quantitative Sector, I contributed to a team that developed a discounted cash flow strategy for S&P 500 stocks using Monte Carlo simulations. After thousands of backtests, the strategy showed a 7.7% outperformance over SPY and was launched in March 2024. More recently, I shifted focus towards the software engineering aspect of the sector. I furthered the development of a new trading platform by integrating Backtrader with the Interactive Brokers API. This initiative has significantly reduced strategy development time by streamlining data collection and backtesting processes, and has allowed for asynchronous strategy execution.
January 2023 - December 2024Returning Software Engineer Intern @ GTRI-CIPHER
Atlanta, Georgia
During my return term at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, I made more contributions to the project's efficiency. This time, I was able to reduce average project build times by rewriting Gradle build scripts to reduce bloat. I developed new Angular components for modal interactions, improving the user experience for a calendar feature. I manually corrected leftover styling errors from the previous semester, and served as the first point of contact for new interns struggling with onboarding and training.
May 2023 - August 2023Software Engineer Intern @ GTRI-CIPHER
Atlanta, Georgia
At the Georgia Tech Research Institute, I played a role in enhancing a private file-sharing system used by thousands of government staff. In my first term, I tackled over 150 code issues related to system reliability on both the front end and back end. In addition to ongoing maintainance, I performed a major conversion of all style sheets from LESS to SCSS by creating a custom npm script that enhanced the styling workflow. I further contributed to upgrading the application from Angular 6 all the way to Angular 15, improving developer utility and application performance.
January 2023 - May 2023Berlin Summer Program, College of Computing @ Georgia Tech
Berlin, Germany
During my freshman summer at Georgia Tech, I made the decision to study abroad. I spent 11 weeks studying at Technische Universität Berlin as part of a program sponored by the College of Computing at Georgia Tech. I took courses such as Machine Learning, Discrete Math, and more. The experience provided me with a unique opportunity to immerse myself in a different culture while simultaneously expanding my technical knowledge.
May 2022 - July 2022Software Team Lead @ GT VIP Program
Atlanta, Georgia
With my second semester in the Vertically Integrated Projects Program, I was promoted to Software Team Lead of my project. This new role involved working heavily with the mechanical and electrical team leads and ensuring software was developed in a way that prioritized integration. I made significant progress with the project vehicle and was able to boost GPS accuracy and reduce detection errors.
December 2021 - December 2022Undergraduate Student Researcher @ GT VIP Program
Atlanta, Georgia
During my first semester at Georgia Tech, I immediately dove into undergraduate research with the Vertically Integrated Projects Program. I worked on a cutting-edge automotive LiDAR system that aspired to improve vehicle autonomy and passenger safety. My role involved coding various parts of the system: I implemented a localization package in Python to improve the system's ability to determine vehicle orientation and improved steering efficiency by integrating an Ackermann Steering Controller package.
